Gun Animation

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

This is another fellow that was posing at Westcott’s Photoshop World booth- Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Studios. I think he got a kick out of showing off his awesome costumes, and all us photographers loved shooting them!

This is another thing I learned at Photoshop World… animation using Photoshop. This is obviously very basic, but I thought it turned out pretty cool!

Westcott’s Warrior Lady

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

This last weekend was Photoshop World in Washington D.C., a 3-day extravaganza full of learning and becoming inspired! I went with my good friend and fellow designer/photographer Gillian. We took the train early Saturday morning and after checking into our hotel, immediately attended our first series of classes. In the afternoon, the expo was open so we could listen to more presentations around the expo hall, or find out about cool new technology and gadgets.

This model was posing at Westcott’s Photoshop World booth for geeks like me to photograph. She was on a white background lit by a huge soft light (WANT). I shot some photos, and I decided to try out a few things I learned at PSW… This is a composite with a couple other photos shot in D.C., plus some effects and tricks. It’s definitely a bit overdone and ridiculous looking, but whatever- it was fun!

Baby Lily Marie

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Remember my gorgeous friend Holly and her husband Bill, who were expecting their first baby? Well, Lily Marie has arrived! She was born strong and healthy on February 21, 2012 and we photographed her 21 days later! She did not fall asleep once, but we managed to get a bunch of great shots even while she was squirming around!

Springtime at the Hirshenson Ranch

Springtime at the Hirshenson Ranch03

The weather has warmed up quite a bit here in New Jersey. I woke up yesterday and glanced out the window to see the magnolia tree starting to bloom. Flowers are popping up everywhere, and it seems more like sunbathing time than planting time!

Today it reached almost 80 degrees, so when I got home I headed outside with my camera. It was golden hour and the animals were all happy to pose for me!

The fish are lively once again, warmed back up after their stillness over the “winter”…

Flowers are popping up, though they are a bit dirty from the rain or from Luke cleaning up the leaves!

Yesterday was so absolutely beautiful that I simply had to use a part of my lunch break to take a walk and a few photos around the office… there are even some little flowers in bloom!

Flashback Friday: Stuffed Green Peppers

Friday, March 9th, 2012

This photo is from the beginning of my 365 photo project in 2010. I love stuffed peppers- not just any old stuffed peppers, but the way my mom makes them. They are definitely not bad like a bowl of pasta, but now might be the time to work on an updated recipe for Paleo stuffed peppers now that rice, beans, and corn are all off the menu for me. Make the ground beef grass-fed, obviously keep the salsa, but maybe replace the rice with cauliflower rice and the corn and beans with some other colorful veggies, then top with Kerrygold Dubliner cheese perhaps!

New Music Discovery: Nicholas Gunty

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

I mostly use Twitter just to keep an eye on what’s happening in the Coyne world, tech world and Paleo world, and occasionally the World world if something big enough happens to break through the clutter. I also take a look at everyone who follows me to see if I want to follow them back. In this way I discovered something awesome. @AcousticNickNY, a.k.a. Nicholas Gunty, followed me yesterday, and so I after reading his description I checked out his music. He is an unsigned but exceptionally talented musician- kind of folk, indie-pop. I immediately shot his links over to my Great Aunt Alison, who I knew immediately would LOVE him (she did). I feel compelled to spread the word, so check out his self-published album here —>

Also, here is his website, nicholasgunty.com (no word of a summer tour yet), and you can buy his album on Band Camp or iTunes.

Since this is still a photo blog… tomorrow it is supposed to be almost 70˚F- I know it’s probably a fluke, but I am looking forward to spring! Here is a picture from last year that makes me happy…

Barefoot-ish

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Last year I got my first pair of barefoot shoes- the Merrell Trail Gloves. I love them and wear them for working out, hiking, cleaning- almost everything. I remember at first my ankles and calves became so sore I could barely walk… I was so used to wearing foot “casts”! Those overly supportive shoes prohibited my natural foot movement. I thought I needed it because of my joints, but I have since learned I don’t need support… I am strong enough to support myself! These shoes are so great because they are minimal, but provide protection from getting stabbed by sticks or glass or whatever, plus a little traction. Just got my new pair in delivered, that Luke got me from Zappos!

The Kitchen is Complete!

Remember this horrible white kitchen…

With the giant beam cutting off light from our big windows?

Well, we ripped it out.

Red Wine in a Lenox Decanter

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

Drink wine, and you will sleep well. Sleep, and you will not sin. Avoid sin, and you will be saved. Ergo, drink wine and be saved. – Medieval German saying

We received this gorgeous decanter as a wedding gift. Up until now, most decorative and/or large kitchen items were stored in the basement. This includes some wedding gifts that we never actually used before. Now that we are finally set in our new kitchen space, we have much more room for all the things that had been previously hiding! I have decided (for now, at least) to place this gorgeous decanter on the counter right by the window. In the daytime it catches the light, and at night, it holds deep, beautiful wines like this 2009 Petalos del Bierzo.
